Omolara presents a modern take on the traditional sculptural art of Benin. She aims to peel back preconceptions to reveal the true nature of beauty and substance. This work is a self-portrait in bronze. The detail of the hair is superimposed in hammered iron with a patina of rust. This version of the photograph on a transparent background is good for printing on T-shirts and other items.

I was born in Mwanza, Tanzania, and currently, live in Singapore. I have always had a passion for art. In my travels across Africa and Asia, I have collected numerous pieces that have deeply moved me. I have continued to follow the development of many of the artists whom I have known. It has saddened me that there are many outstanding artists in Africa and Asia who do not have the opportunity to engage with a wider audience who would appreciate and be enriched by their art. This project explores cultural identity in African and Asian art. I present a curated collection representing works of contemporary artists from Africa and Asia. My dream is that these works will move you and speak to you as they do to me.
